I adopted kiki in November of 2009 or should I say she really adopted me. Since then she has really become a cherished and beloved member of my family. Which consists of 2 cats and another dog that is also a little paws rescue whom my mother adopted shortly before Kiki. Kiki loves to chase the cats! Charlie I think secretly loves kiki although by the way he acts you wouldn't think so. Simon on the other hand well, all I will say on that is at night kiki and simon have called a truce. As far as Coco well kiki and coco are best buds who play together, eat at the same time mostly, and even cuddle together on the couch. I couldn't have asked for a better little girl who has lots of love to give.

I adopted Rascal (Bodie) from Little Paws Dog Rescue May 16th, 2010. I fell in love with him the first time I saw him on your web site! I told my husband we had to adopt him and he agreed! We already have a schnauzer but he needed a friend and what better way than to adopt a rescue!!!! When I first met Bodie we clicked right away. He's such a friendly and loving dog and just wants to be petted and loved. The transition was sooooo easy it was scary. He has never went potty in the house and has not chewed a thing. He is such a good boy. He does have a barking issue but we are working on that and he is improving every day!! I tell Bodie's rescue Mom whenever I update her on Bodie that she and all the people of Little Paws Dog Rescue are angels for all that they do!!!! Keep up the good work!!! Thank you Cassandra and everyone at Little Paws Dog Rescue for saving our little Bodie!!!

I adopted Snickers in December 2009. He is an older Shih Tzu mix, doesn't see well, hear well, and he is quite arthritic. He has brought so much joy to our lives. After a visit to our local vet, he has been on meds for his joint stiffness and pain. He loves to jump around, and spins in circles when it is treat time....which he thinks is all of the time!! He joined another Shih Tzu and between the two of them, we have been caught laughing uncontrollably. We recently built a ramp for Snickers to ease the stress on him using the steps. He runs up and down that ramp like he is 2!!! Anyway, to make a long story short, he is so loved and bringing him home was the best thing....thank you for rescuing him from CVHS.

I adopted Ariel (now Ellie) in late December, 2009 and she found not only her forever home, but imediately found a place in my heart. She loves to eat, play with her ball, take walks and sleep. My 6 year old Lab, Lucy, has learned to love her, too, so now I have to make room on my bed for both girls. Thanks to everyone who took such good care of her until she came to live with me.

Eric and I adopted JJ two days before we moved to Wilmington, NC (about a month ago) we couldn't have asked for a better dog to travel with especially with our cat Cosmo. We are both managers for Ruby Tuesday, it is so nice to come home to JJ especially after a long days work. This was our Christmas present to each other this year, I have always wanted a loving, adorable, amazing dog. We couldn't be happier to have adopted the little guy, we can't wait to spend our lives with him, he deserves it. Thank you to Deb who was more than patient with us and for loving JJ as much as we do! Thanks again!

We brought Riggs (was Wriggles, still called this too) to our home on November 30, 2009. This has been a wonderful experience for our family. We lost our Boxer two years ago and Riggs is helping us recover and move on with our lives. He is a wonderful addition to our family. He sleeps with our daughter every night. I think the foster parents did a great job letting us know Riggs personality and temperament. This was our first time going through a rescue and I would do it again. It has been a great experience and we tell a lot of people about this. Thank you very much for allowing us to adopt Riggs.

We adopted Tex about 9 months ago. We saw him at one of the adoption drives at a Petsmart and it was love at first sight for my husband. I couldn't drag him away to help with the shopping he just sat there and petted this little dog that looked like an old man. Now I'm the kind of gal that likes pretty dogs and Tex is far from pretty but he stole my husband’s heart and we decided to go through with the adoption proceedings. It became clear from the first that he is a man’s dog. He and my husband are best friends and it is plain to me that he likes men better than women he will often spurn the attention of my mom or grandma and run to my grandpa instead (usually for a nap on a lap). We couldn't be more happy with Tex, but don’t get me wrong it hasn’t been all roses and sunshine, there were some challenging moments the first few months, he even got the nickname the sneaky pooper because he would sneak off to do his business (I am happy to report that that is no longer a problem). He was also and to a certain extent still is afraid of everything. From the vaccum to the recliner if it moved it would send him running from the room to quake in terror, not to mention his extreme fear of the vets office and strange dogs on walks, but as he has gotten more confident and comfortable with us he has gotten braver. He still runs from loud noises but doesn’t quake in fear and strange dogs are becoming less frightening, he even ran up to greet a strange dog the other day instead of attack. It is clear that he has finally decided he can trust us and shows his love and confidence more and more everyday. We hope that this is a reminder to those people that have adopted and are struggling with a damaged dog that things do get better if you have patience and love. Happy Holidays to everyone from Tex and his friend Amit.

On October 11, 2009, we brought our newest family member Hillshire (now Chester) home from Little Paws Rescue. His "bio" did not disappoint; he is truly an amazing dog. We have adopted pets from shelters in the past, but none of the transitions have been as smooth as with Chester. Some of it is likely because of his easygoing personality, but I give most of the credit to the people working with the adoptions who go to great lengths to insure that the placement of a dog is a good fit for everyone. They are not just trying to "unload" a dog onto someone, they truly care about the pets and the adoptive "parents" as well. We were prepared for an adjustment period, you expect that SOMETHING will get chewed up or peed on when you bring a new dog into the house, but so far, nothing has happened. Chester is a very happy, friendly guy and we couldn't love him more. The experience with Little Paws was fantastic and if we would ever have room for another dog in our home, we would return. Thank you so much for our wonderful friend! Christina and Jeff Spencer

We adopted Cammi a little over 1 1/2 ago. We found her while browsing the interest. It was love at first sight and we drove to CR amost immediately to see her in person. Cammi totally lived up to expectations and we adopted her. Cammi is a VERY personable member of our family and loves spending time with the residents at the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown. Cammi now is the "big sister" to a 1 yr old yellow lab even though there is a big size difference she lets it be known, she rules. Cammi continues be an important member of our family and I have never had a more positive experience adopting a pet.

Hi! My name is Freya. I was brought into a loving home with my dog mom Christy; with our foster mom Kim! When I turned 11weeks, Kim told me she had found the perfect family that would love and care for me forever! This is when I met my mom, Melissa! When I met her, I lunged into her arms knowing she’d make me happy and I would forever be her baby! When I was searching for a puppy of my own I was looking to adopt a little mini me as I call her. They say our pets usually have or take on the same personality as their moms/dads; well Freya definitely reminds me of what I may have been like as a child. As my mom always says….she’s just like her mother!  Full of energy, something always on her mind or always up to something. She will “tell” you how it is or in other words she knows what she wants and is stubborn if mom says “ah a” (it’s our nice way of saying “no”) and she minds it well with consistency of household rules! I tell my mom everyday, I never realized what love is until I adopted Freya! She is the most perfect, precious baby! I wish everyone could experience the relationship between a human and an animal child! If you treat your loved ones (human or animal) with fulfilled LOVE and RESPECT and truly care about them, they will forever hold you close to their hearts and love, respect and care back just as much! Call me Freya obsessed but Freya has definitely changed my life for the BEST and everyday bad or good at work I come home to her sweet little face and tail wagging ready to go home from grandma’s daycare! I couldn’t have asked for a more perfect puppy! Freya thinks the same about us; I know this because a puppy’s eyes and tail can say a million words! Freya and I will forever hold Kim and Little paws rescue close to our hearts in hopes that many more dogs find loving homes! Thank you so much Kim!

We adopted Fletcher about two months ago. There were some definate concerns at first. He was reported to have potty training problems in his original home. He wasn't very playful, seemed afraid of men and had an ear infection. Today, he is a different dog! We never had any potty issues with him. He will not so much as pass gas in the house! He is very playful now that he is more comfortable with us. His favorite toy is his ball, and you should see him when he gets a new bone! He is so funny. He throws it around, then growls and rolls on it! He never barks though unless someone is at the door. He is very friendly and doesn't seem to have any fears of anyone now. Now that he knows he's safe and cared for. He's pretty sure eveyone he encounters is his friend that he needs to give kisses to. He doesn't chew what he's not supposed to chew. He loves to snuggle, look out the window, go on car rides and visit grandma's house (she's always has a treat for him). He has brought so much fun and laughter to our house and we couldn't be happier!

Kim, Jamae and everyone at Little Paws: we just wanted to say thank you for all your hard work! We adopted Pepi (now Percy) in March of 08. He's been a great addition to our family and we've been inspired to start volunteering for our own local rescue agency now that we've moved to Michigan. We've learned more about puppy mills and are so happy that we decided NOT to support them

Kim: Blast from the past! Lost your name and number and thought you would love to know that Cocoa; the little lhaso apso I adopted from you back in 2005/2006 is doing fantastic! She was the dog you thought would be unadoptable, extremely timid, ran away from us when we came to your home and again after we got her to our new home in Cedar Rapids. We now live in Clearwater Florida area and I've thought about you and your wonderful mission of finding homes for these animals and to thank you again for your time in placing these animals in homes. She is a fantastic dog that now loves everyone, goes up to people, but still hates thunder storms! She was the dog who was beat with a shovel on her back. We now nicknamed her "girlie" and she loves her momma! We still have our other Lhaso Apso and they are best buddies. Thanks Again, god bless what you all do! The Kramers

Just wanted to say that our new little girl is doing GREAT!! we adopted Winnie, her full name now is Winnie Pastel Rowland she is such a good addition to our family, the cats feel differently right now but I am convinced they will come around in time (she just wants to play) She is doing great at housebreaking and she is going to puppy class and learning every day. she loves her walks and loves jumping (with our help) into bed with us after going outside first thing in the morning. she has such a sweet personality. Initially I wanted a breed instead of a mix but I am so glad we adopted Winnie and more so that we rescued a dog. I encourage people to be responsible pet owners and get their pets spayed or neutered and have the attitude they are not disposable they are part of your family…

I adopted Brodie in September 2007 and would like to thank you for such a wonderful little dog. I was looking for a Pekingese who would be a companion to my other little Pekingese Leonardo. I can tell you that on any given day I cannot tell where one begins and the other one ends. They are either playing and wrestling or they are sleeping together on a dog bed.Brodie is also very active and smart so we are now training him in agility - he loves it! Brodie is wonderful and we really love him.

Hello! Beau our new Jack Russell/Bull Terrier mix is the best dog in the WORLD! He was already housebroken, and older (5 years)so he was over the puppy stage. I am so glad we have him now and he really seems to appreciate having a great loving home! Beau loves to play and join us outdoors but he is ready to come in and relax in the recliner with me at the end of the day! My 2 daughters and husband say that he is the best dog we have ever had! Please give adoption a chance, there are so many wonderful pets that need a great home and most of them are better than what you would get by going to a breeder!

I adopted Oliver (formerly Ziggy) in the fall of 2007, and he is the most wonderful addition to my life! I cannot imagine why this adorable black and white Shit Tzu was abandoned because he is the sweetest little guy with great manners and training. My family and friends love him too,so he’s definitely got a place in our home and hearts forever. I am so happy I chose to adopt from Little Paws, it is one of the best decisions I’ve ever made!

We adopted Farley in April, 2007. My 6 y/o daughter likes to say that “he picked us” because he came and climbed into my lap and put his head on my shoulder. Farley is a basset/german shepherd/lab mix, and we really think we got the best of all those breeds. He is so laid back, but if you want to go on a 4 mile walk, he is right there with you. I have other friends who adopted puppies around the same time we got Farley. One of the differences we noticed was his calm nature around other dogs, kids and adults. We credit the home fostering program for is ease around everyone. He hasn’t yet met a dog or person who he didn’t like immediately. This was the first indoor dog I had ever owned, I first thought there was NO WAY I was going to be able to handle a puppy. Now I think there is NO WAY I could not have him in our lives. We all love him so much, and the practical assistance and advice we got from the staff of Little Paws Rescue, both before adoption and the months immediately following, was invaluable! Thank you for helping us complete our family!

Having never lived alone in my 60-plus years, I was widowed last year and found the adjustment very difficult, so in January I decided to seek a “roommate.” Little Paws Dog Rescue introduced me to an 8-year-old, 10-pound bundle of love named Cookie - a Scottie/Yorkie mix. From the beginning, we were a perfect match. She seems to anticipate my every wish and in return asks nothing more than a warm sunbeam or my lap to snuggle in. Relatives were initially concerned that, because she’s a small dog, I might trip over her and fall, but she’s always mannerly and waits for me to go through a doorway first. She’s even so considerate that she doesn’t shed! And I’ve had none of the challenges of housebreaking, leash training, yapping, chewing, etc, that come with a puppy. Believe me, I’ve dealt with that! Last but not least, Kim and Jamae have been great in their follow-ups to make sure all is well. I definitely would recommend that anyone thinking about getting a dog should adopt a rescue animal… and look to Little Paws first.

Peanut is our four year old Fox Terrier. We adopted her about one year ago. She has become one of the family. Actually, my wife and I can not imagine our family without little Peanut. She is extremely intelligent. So much so, that she already answers to her name in a number of different languages. English = Peanut German = Erdnuss Mandarin = Huasheng Spanish = Cacahuate Peanut goes almost everywhere with us. She enjoys our daily walks and car rides. She is not a huge fan of flying in small planes though. Then again, my wife doesn’t enjoy flying either. Did I mention that Peanut and my wife have bonded especially close? The enjoyment that Peanut has brought into ourlives can not over emphasized. She is always upbeat and happy to see us. No matter how difficult the workday has been, Peanut is always there ready with a high pitched squeek and a rapidly wagging tail when we arrive home. Thank you Kim and Andy for all the joy you have brought into our lives.

Maggie was adopted by my husband and me a few days before Thanksgiving, 2008. She is a 10 lb. mixed breed dog who we fell in love with almost immediately. After spending about 20 minutes with her in her foster home, I said to my husband “I really want this dog”. We had looked at dogs at breeders and pet stores, but it didn’t seem quite right. Although the dogs were sweet, we wanted to avoid encouraging puppy mills and breeders when there are so many wonderful dogs in shelters that need homes. Although the process to adopt Maggie was lengthy and time consuming, it was well worth it. She is a loving, funny and sweet dog. We can’t imagine our lives without her. Many thanks to the foster parents and all the people at the Little Paws rescue who took such good care of her.

I can’t express the joy that my adopted dog Wilson has brought me. He is the dog that I have always dreamed to own. He is always on my lap or by my side. Right now he is laying by my feet while I am at the computer. When you hold him he just melts into you. I don’t know why he was abandon. He does not have any bad habits and he housebroke very quickly and believe you me that was important to me. There are so many wonderful dogs out there please give them a chance. They will win your heart over, too! This was one of the best decisions I have made. Wilson even won my husband and son over, it took all of a week. It is like he has always been part of our family.

We first saw Tiki on a poster at Hy-Vee and were amazed at how much she looks like our other dog. Then a friend called and told us about her so I got online and checked her out.Well here we are six weeks later and she acts like she has lived with us her whole life. Bunk has grown fond of her also which we didn't expect because he has been spoiled rotten for 10 years. She is perfect for him since he has had numerous knee surgeries and needs a gentle friend. I have been having fun dressing her in cute clothes(which my friends laugh at me for). I don't know why she was given up but she is the perfect addition to our family. Thank you Kim for picking me to be her forever Mommy!

We adopted Sadie in February 2009. She is a 1 ½ year old lab/who- knows- what- else mix. My husband and I decided to adopt a dog after the kids moved out of the house and we found it too quiet. We wanted to adopt an adult dog so we wouldn’t have to deal with some of the “puppy issues”. A friend recommended Little Paws Dog Rescue. We found Sadie using the Little Paws website. Her foster mom, Heather made the adoption process very easy. Sadie is very sweet and loving. She thinks all people and dogs are her friends. She is a great walking/running companion and loves to play outside. We’re very happy she’s a part of our family!
