My family adopted Phoebe on January 2nd, and we could not love her anymore than we already do. Right away she made her self comfortable and now is the queen of the house. Phoebe is the sweetest little girl and has become very attached to her new family. She has also picked out her favorite toy and is loving the blanket that her sister made for her. We love this little girl we could not have asked for a better fit for our family.

We adopted Meeko, a sweet 6 year old Pekingnese in September and he is fitting in just great with our other 2 Peke's, Toby and Lexi, both 11. It took awhle to adjust, but Lexi and Meeko play together alot. Meeko is a funny little guy, he was shy at first, then every night he met Daddy at the door too, then he started playing with the pillows on the couch and then next thing I knew he was sleeping on one of the pillows! I knew he felt at home when he did that! And now Toby and Lexi are doing the same thing! He loves walks and play time alot. He brings us so much joy and laughter, we couldn't love him more. The foster parents are all wonderful people, thank you for taking care of him so well. I just knew he was meant to be with our family, he has his forever home with us. This was our first rescue dog, please don't hesitate to give these sweet babies a home. I think they appreciate it so much. Thanks so much Little Paws Dog Rescue. Karen, Greg, Ryan, Toby and Lexi and especially Meeko.

I adopted Zoey, a 2-year-old blue heeler, from Little Paws a month ago, and she is such an amazing dog. She came to us terrified of strangers, but after only a few hours she began following us around the apartment and hasn't left our side since. Anytime we come back inside, even if we were just taking out the trash, she greets us with such enthusiasm, and she is becoming much less skittish around strangers, even letting some of the neighbors and visitors pet her. She barks extremely rarely and is remarkably well-behaved, despite the apartment complex having several noisy dogs. She loves to curl up next to us on the couch during the day and lick us whenever she wants attention, and although she preferred her kennel during the first week here, she now likes to sleep on the bed at our feet at night. She has learned to recognize the sound of the alarm and wakes us up in the morning with kisses and an enormous grin. She was a very quiet and sad dog originally, but now she enjoys roughhousing with us and chasing us around when we run. She sits outside on the porch with us, with or without a leash, and enjoys the breeze while we pet her. She is so sweet and happy; I couldn't even have imagined such a wonderful dog. I can't thank you enough, Tommi & Jennifer and the rest of Little Paws! Hopefully in a few years I will be able to move into a house with a nice yard where I can give more rescue dogs a home. :]

I adopted Belvedere back in March of this year and he has been a great addition to my life. He is a very sweet and loving little guy and he is happiest when he can curl up next to me while I read or work on schoolwork. In this picture he is on his way to a family vacation where he did really well with the kids. They absolutely loved him and he tolerated them pretty well. However, he was happier when they went off to do their own activities and he could curl up with me or my mom. I'm glad he chose me and I can't imagine not having him in my life. Thanks Little Paws!

Looking at these pictures of Braydon bring back fun memories for me. I had Braydon for a week and she was a good puppy. I don't know if she was super happy...being in a kennel most of the day and then fighting her attention with my other dog, who I Love dearly named Dylan. It is so fun to see the pictures of her. She is getting big and its fun to know she is learning new things like her doggy door and that she is making new friends. I hope she will remember me. I will never forget her. I hope I will be able to see her one last time before she is adopted for good to her new home. I just hope her new home is permanent and that its full of Love!

The photo is from this winter (Christmas)
but it shows Sugar’s good condition. My father, Woody, who adopted her told me today she
weighs 11 pounds and her coat is healthy with a nice sheen to it
from the good food she gets.
Sugar is still scared of noises but she has made improvement with
our loving family. She loves having her tummy rubbed and jumps
on the couch to get her back scratched from me and plays with her mouth.
She can commonly be found on the pillow on Woody’s lap, although she loves
to sit on anyone’s lap. She gives a bark greeting whenever we get home.
Walks are an experience with Sugar. She is like a Beagle - she is lead by her nose.
Everything has to be smelled. Since I walk her most of the time, I know she loves
a walk and has good endurance. When she sees the leash she gets excited.
Thank you for your work.
Gregory

Sadie, the sweet cocker spaniel, that I adopted in late January has become a very much loved member of our family. My daughter, her children, and theirs also play and cuddle with her and she is so responsive to them. We recently took a 5 hour trip by car to my daudhter's home in St. Joseph and she was the best behaved passenger in the car. Not only on the ride down, but also coming back. All you have to say is bye bye and she is ready to go. More power to Little Paws for the great work they do.
Thanks again, Florence Haney

I just wanted to thank you for our little shitzu "Gizmo". We adopted him a little over 4 years ago and never changed his name. He was surrendered with flea bites with no hair on his back or legs and scared of everything. He hid in corners and under anything he could find. He has been in our lives for 4 years now and completely changed. He loves everyone, and is the first to the door to meet guests. Thank you for all you do. We will always look to you if we ever need another addition to the family. :)

Five weeks ago I signed the adoption papers for Sadie,( a 10 year old cocker). I first wanted to find a companion for my shih-tzu, Miranda(also 10 years old). I couldn't have expected a better outcome. She and Miranda sleep together, go outside together and follow each other everywhere. The first 2 nights Sadie was here, she slept in her crate. By the 3rd night she was sleepong in bed with Miranda and I.When I left the house I was leaving Sadie in her crate, but that only lasted 2 more days and now she has the complete run of the house. She waits till I wake in the mornung for me to get up and then she comes to me for a big hug. She is a happy and healthy dog with a great deal of affection to give. An added bonus for me has been to learn she will alert to my low blood sugar at night and not allow me to go back to sleep until I am aware of the situation and eat something. This has been a great experience for me and I wouldn.t have missed it for any reason. Little Paws has given me a gift I wont soon forget. If I were not in my middle 70.s, I would be out there doing foster care.

Maggie, now a 2-yr-old Shih Tzu joined our family (me & my elderly parents) when we moved into our new home in July 2009. She had been a cherished member of Carrie’s foster family (named Meg) prior to joining us. Maggie is now a well-established family member who spends time with each family member, visits regularly with her neighbor dogs, and befriends all the neighborhood children. She very much enjoys trips to the doggie store (more for the opportunity to visit other doggies and children than anything else), is always ready to go for a walk or a ride in the jeep, and (after her bath is over) enjoys seeing Kim and Ariel and the other staff at Kim’s Animal House. On cold days, she loves lying on Gma’s lap when Gma is sitting in the rocking chair. She keeps aware of what is happening on the street but does a good job of just “wuffing” instead of barking.
Maggie has completed most of her training to become a registered therapy dog so she will be able to visit and check on Gpa when he has to go to a nursing home. She doesn’t mind that Gpa’s Alzheimer’s means that he sometimes calls her the name of a dog he used to have, Lady. She spends time sitting or lying on Gpa’s ankles when he is sleeping in his recliner. When he is awake, she enjoys playing in his lap with a toy or begging for candy from Gpa’s Candy Jar (Gpa forgets the word “treats” so he calls it candy – Maggie doesn’t mind, she understands).
We cannot thank you enough for rescuing Meg, keeping her safe and beginning her training, and allowing her to join us as Maggie. She is precious and we cannot imagine life without her.
Thank you!

Amber Rose came to live with us in December 2010. It did not take her long to adjust to being the QUEEN of the house. Her little brother, Chesney is so happy to have a big sister. They are both spoiled rotten, with the run of the house, treats daily, play time, and they both have 1/2 the bed, one under the covers and one on top covered with a light blanket. We all three snuggle on the couch every night. I want to thank Little Paws for the time and happiness they have brought to Amber Rose, Chesney, and myself.

I was adotped by Karen in June 2009. We live in a condo with some ohter cool neighbor dogs. Since arriving inthe neighborhood I have been able to bring order to the sidewalk letting all the ohter walers adn dogs know I was watching them. I am not allowed to bark at them but I can growl, mom's real twitchy about barking a lot. It took a while for me to get comfortable with mom being out of my sight, now I just lay on the couch and watch her move from roomto room, unless it is the kitchen adn she really needs supervision in that room. We have travelled a lot mostly to grandpa and grandmas hwere there is a really big yard to patrol. I like that place because grandpa gives treats for going outside, being cute, sitting adn watching him etc. He gets in trouble with mom though and then we have to be careful. All in all I am glad I was able to rescue mom and we have a good routine. She is a little obsessive about keeping me clean, my paws dry and don't get me started on the haircuts, every 4-6 weeks regardless of what I want. The groomer lady is nice, but she doesn't let me be in control and that is never good for me.
This Fall Aunt Charissa came to stay with us because her twins came early and were in the hospital for a long time, so I had two people takign care of me and the two canine cousins and Uncle Jeff on the weekends, whew were they crazy, in the garbage, in the treats licking the dishes in the dishwasher, mom says she sure is glad I don't do any of those things. The twins are great and whenthey stay at my house I help watch them. I lay by their seats and and make sure the people are doing their jobs. So glad I was able to find such a good match for myslef and such a trainable person. Thank you Little Paws! Cato

Maisie was rescued from a life in a puppy mill by Little Paws Dog Rescue. She is a wonderful girl who loves her new home. Since arriving Maisie has learned what treats are, stairs, sleeping on a bed, etc. All new to her. She is a happy little dog whose tail is always up and wagging when she trots along.

In October 2009, we adopted Chester (fka Hillshire) from Little Paws. He lived up to his "billing" of being an "amazing dog" as he just fit right in with our family and we had asolutely no behavior problems with him. He was just the sweetest boy you could imagine, just wanted to be a part of our family. In January, 2010, we added Hardy the Beagle to our family (also from Little Paws). He was younger and had probably had a little bit of a more difficult life, as he is still frightened of many things. In the beginning, Chester was not so pleased to share his new family with Hardy, but as time has progressed, he has figured out that there is enough love (and treats!) for everyone...!
We are thankful for the work that is done by the volunteers at Little Paws Dog Rescue, as these two "boys" are a very important part of our family. We look forward to spending the Holidays with both of them (as well as their older sister Kimmy) and hopefully Hardy won't do any damage to the Christmas tree...!

Moses joined our family in June. A 6-1/2 year old Shih Tzu, it took him a while to decide if he should warm up to us. Now he and our Bichon, Buddy, are inseparable and Moses is affectionate and seems very happy---as are we! Our thanks to Pete and Kris for doing such a great job helping Moses with his transition. They were helpful for all of us....and we couldn't be happier that Moses is with us now. Thanks to all for your help connecting us with this super dog!

I adopted kiki in November of 2009 or should I say she really adopted me. Since then she has really become a cherished and beloved member of my family. Which consists of 2 cats and another dog that is also a little paws rescue whom my mother adopted shortly before Kiki. Kiki loves to chase the cats! Charlie I think secretly loves kiki although by the way he acts you wouldn't think so. Simon on the other hand well, all I will say on that is at night kiki and simon have called a truce. As far as Coco well kiki and coco are best buds who play together, eat at the same time mostly, and even cuddle together on the couch. I couldn't have asked for a better little girl who has lots of love to give.

I adopted Rascal (Bodie) from Little Paws Dog Rescue May 16th, 2010. I fell in love with him the first time I saw him on your web site! I told my husband we had to adopt him and he agreed! We already have a schnauzer but he needed a friend and what better way than to adopt a rescue!!!!
When I first met Bodie we clicked right away. He's such a friendly and loving dog and just wants to be petted and loved.
The transition was sooooo easy it was scary. He has never went potty in the house and has not chewed a thing. He is such a good boy. He does have a barking issue but we are working on that and he is improving every day!!
I tell Bodie's rescue Mom whenever I update her on Bodie that she and all the people of Little Paws Dog Rescue are angels for all that they do!!!!
Keep up the good work!!! Thank you Cassandra and everyone at Little Paws Dog Rescue for saving our little Bodie!!!

I adopted Snickers in December 2009. He is an older Shih Tzu mix, doesn't see well, hear well, and he is quite arthritic. He has brought so much joy to our lives. After a visit to our local vet, he has been on meds for his joint stiffness and pain. He loves to jump around, and spins in circles when it is treat time....which he thinks is all of the time!! He joined another Shih Tzu and between the two of them, we have been caught laughing uncontrollably. We recently built a ramp for Snickers to ease the stress on him using the steps. He runs up and down that ramp like he is 2!!! Anyway, to make a long story short, he is so loved and bringing him home was the best thing....thank you for rescuing him from CVHS.

I adopted Ariel (now Ellie) in late December, 2009 and she found not only her forever home, but imediately found a place in my heart. She loves to eat, play with her ball, take walks and sleep. My 6 year old Lab, Lucy, has learned to love her, too, so now I have to make room on my bed for both girls. Thanks to everyone who took such good care of her until she came to live with me.

Eric and I adopted JJ two days before we moved to Wilmington, NC (about a month ago) we couldn't have asked for a better dog to travel with especially with our cat Cosmo. We are both managers for Ruby Tuesday, it is so nice to come home to JJ especially after a long days work. This was our Christmas present to each other this year, I have always wanted a loving, adorable, amazing dog. We couldn't be happier to have adopted the little guy, we can't wait to spend our lives with him, he deserves it. Thank you to Deb who was more than patient with us and for loving JJ as much as we do! Thanks again!

We brought Riggs (was Wriggles, still called this too) to our home on November 30, 2009. This has been a wonderful experience for our family. We lost our Boxer two years ago and Riggs is helping us recover and move on with our lives. He is a wonderful addition to our family. He sleeps with our daughter every night. I think the foster parents did a great job letting us know Riggs personality and temperament. This was our first time going through a rescue and I would do it again. It has been a great experience and we tell a lot of people about this. Thank you very much for allowing us to adopt Riggs.

We adopted Tex about 9 months ago. We saw him at one of the adoption drives at a Petsmart and it was love at first sight for my husband. I couldn't drag him away to help with the shopping he just sat there and petted this little dog that looked like an old man. Now I'm the kind of gal that likes pretty dogs and Tex is far from pretty but he stole my husband’s heart and we decided to go through with the adoption proceedings. It became clear from the first that he is a man’s dog. He and my husband are best friends and it is plain to me that he likes men better than women he will often spurn the attention of my mom or grandma and run to my grandpa instead (usually for a nap on a lap).
We couldn't be more happy with Tex, but don’t get me wrong it hasn’t been all roses and sunshine, there were some challenging moments the first few months, he even got the nickname the sneaky pooper because he would sneak off to do his business (I am happy to report that that is no longer a problem). He was also and to a certain extent still is afraid of everything. From the vaccum to the recliner if it moved it would send him running from the room to quake in terror, not to mention his extreme fear of the vets office and strange dogs on walks, but as he has gotten more confident and comfortable with us he has gotten braver. He still runs from loud noises but doesn’t quake in fear and strange dogs are becoming less frightening, he even ran up to greet a strange dog the other day instead of attack. It is clear that he has finally decided he can trust us and shows his love and confidence more and more everyday. We hope that this is a reminder to those people that have adopted and are struggling with a damaged dog that things do get better if you have patience and love. Happy Holidays to everyone from Tex and his friend Amit.
